Happy New Year

With luck I am staying out of hospital, although I have an appointment - weather permitting - with the consultant tomorrow. While in hospital I have begun work on several major new posts, which will need editing down before I upload. The full versions will probably be posted on Scribd or as a page here on the blog.

Ayn Rand at Harry's Place

I've never read Atlas Shrugged - I couldn't take any more after The Fountainhead, which has to be the worst book I have ever read. Repellent philosophy,appalling writing and non-stop whinging.

Rand clearly stills rings bells with some people though. My review of The Fountainhead is probably my most read blog post ever.

If you want real libertarian fiction, with a hero who is a whole human being, with a joy in life that comes bursting off the page, who is full of good humour and gentility, who deeply cares for his fellow human beings and who avoids and subverts the state at every opportunity then read H E Bates' books about Pop Larkin, starting with The Darling Buds of May.

PC problems

When I got out of hospital (more on that later) I discovered that my PC had given up the ghost. I think the power supply has gone, but my repairer doesn't open until Monday next, so until it is fixed, I have put my on line shops at Etsy etc in 'vacation mode'. I'll post more when I get sorted. I can't access my e-mail either, so apologies for any unanswered messages.
